From Soil To Skin—Hear What They’re Saying
Is it an SPF?
No, Sun Butter does not carry an official SPF rating. To receive that label, we’d be required to add synthetic stabilizers and preservatives—ingredients we choose to avoid.
Instead, we use non-nano zinc oxide, the same active mineral filter found in many SPF-rated sunscreens, without any of the unnecessary chemicals.
Sun Butter is equivalent in strength to industry standard SPF30 products.
Will it leave a white cast?
Very minimal, thanks to our tallow base. Unlike most mineral sunscreens, Sun Butter blends in smoothly and leaves a dewy, natural finish with a warm tint—not a chalky film.
Is it reef safe?
Yes. Sun Butter is free from chemical UV filters like oxybenzone and octinoxate, which are known to harm marine life. Our formula is 100% reef-safe and ocean-friendly.
Can I use it every day?
Absolutely. Sun Butter is designed for daily use as both a moisturizer and a sun protectant. Gentle enough for sensitive skin, effective enough for real sun exposure.
Is it water-resistant?
Somewhat, thanks to its rich, balm-like texture. However, we recommend reapplying after swimming, sweating, or towel drying to ensure continued protection.

In the search for safer, more effective alternatives to conventional sunscreen, clean skincare enthusiasts are embracing Sun Butter—a tallow-based mineral balm that offers daily hydration and broad-spectrum UV defense without the chemical baggage. Crafted with just five ingredients, including non-nano zinc oxide, grass-fed tallow, and mango butter, Sun Butter is redefining what sun protection should feel like: nourishing, breathable, and totally free from synthetics. In this guide, we’ll explore the benefits of Sun Butter, its hero ingredients, and why it's a smarter choice for your skin and the planet.
Understanding Sun Butter: A Natural Alternative to Conventional Sunscreen
What Is Sun Butter?
Sun Butter is a 2-in-1 moisturizer and mineral sun balm made entirely from natural, skin-friendly ingredients. Unlike traditional sunscreens that rely on chemical UV filters like oxybenzone or octinoxate—both known hormone disruptors—Sun Butter uses non-nano zinc oxide, a physical UV blocker that reflects harmful UVA and UVB rays. This means it protects your skin without penetrating your bloodstream or irritating sensitive skin.
The Skin-Loving Ingredients in Sun Butter
Non-Nano Zinc Oxide
This FDA-recognized mineral is a broad-spectrum UV filter that sits on the surface of your skin, forming a safe, physical barrier against sun damage. It’s reef-safe, non-irritating, and ideal for daily use.
Grass-Fed Tallow
Rich in fatty acids and skin-compatible lipids, tallow deeply moisturizes and supports the skin barrier, helping to keep skin soft, resilient, and protected from environmental stressors.
Mango Butter
Loaded with vitamins A and C, mango butter helps smooth, soften, and brighten skin, while offering additional antioxidant protection from free radicals.
Cocoa Powder
Adds a subtle, natural tint and reduces white cast commonly associated with zinc-based sunscreens. It also delivers a soft, healthy glow to the skin.
White Grapefruit Essential Oil
Provides a light, refreshing citrus scent—no synthetic fragrances needed. It also supports a balanced complexion with its gentle astringent properties.
The Benefits of Sun Butter for Skin
Clean UV Protection Without Compromise
Sun Butter uses the same active mineral filter as many SPF-rated products—but without the synthetic preservatives or stabilizers. You get real sun protection, minus the chemicals.
Daily Hydration with a Dewy Finish
Thanks to nourishing ingredients like tallow and mango butter, Sun Butter doubles as your daily moisturizer, keeping your skin soft, supple, and glowing all day long.
Minimal White Cast, Maximum Blendability
Unlike most mineral sunscreens, Sun Butter blends seamlessly into skin, thanks to its tallow base and natural tint. It works on all skin types and tones, without leaving a chalky film.
Reef-Safe and Environmentally Friendly
With no chemical UV filters, no plastic packaging, and a minimal-ingredient formula, Sun Butter is safe for marine life, safe for your body, and sustainably made in the USA.
Soothing for Sensitive Skin
Free from endocrine disruptors, parabens, and synthetic fragrance, Sun Butter is gentle enough for even the most reactive skin, making it perfect for daily facial use.
How to Use Sun Butter in Your Routine
Apply a small amount to clean skin in the morning as the final step in your skincare routine. Warm it between your hands and massage into your face and body until fully absorbed. Reapply throughout the day as needed—especially after swimming, sweating, or towel drying.
Conclusion: Nourish and Defend with Sun Butter
Sun Butter offers a simple, effective, and natural way to protect your skin from the sun—without compromising on ingredients or comfort. By combining non-nano zinc oxide with nutrient-rich tallow and botanical ingredients, this balm delivers real UV defense, deep hydration, and a clean finish. Whether you're heading outside for a few minutes or a full beach day, Sun Butter is your go-to for clean, daily sun protection that truly supports your skin.
